A leading supplier in the high-tech sector manufactures stainless steel handling tools for a demanding high-tech end customer. For many years, these components were traditionally pickled. While this method is effective in removing oxides, in this case it resulted in a blotchy surface finish.
To meet the strict cleanliness requirements of the high-tech industry, the products were additionally cleaned in our cleanroom after pickling. The result was acceptable, but the process involved many steps, multiple suppliers and unnecessary transport movements. The customer asked us to help find a more efficient and sustainable alternative, without compromising on quality.
Van Geenen analysed the entire process and proposed replacing the pickling with ViwateQ® Finishing: an innovative wet blasting technique without chemicals. This treatment provides a smooth, uniform and visually appealing stainless-steel surface that meets the highest aesthetic and technical standards.
Where previously multiple parties were involved, Van Geenen now took full control of the entire process. We supplied the base material, arranged cutting, bending and welding through our trusted partners, and then carried out the ViwateQ® Finishing. The components were subsequently cleaned, assembled and packaged in our cleanroom, completely ready for delivery to the end customer.
By taking responsibility for material sourcing, we were able to fully control quality, traceability and scheduling. The customer benefited from a single point of contact, one integrated process and consistent quality from material to final product.
After extensive testing, the results were convincing: the surface was perfectly uniform and free of stains, the lead time was significantly shorter and the process was completely chemical-free. The collaboration resulted in fewer transport movements, lower costs and a more sustainable supply chain.
The customer was so satisfied with the result that they decided to have all their stainless-steel handling tools fully sourced, finished, cleaned, assembled and packaged by Van Geenen.
